How I’m getting calmer, more supple skin | Shea moisture Skincare

Hi Beauties!

It’s already obvious what I’m writing about today. I went for the Shea Moisture Nigeria masterclass last week Friday and as a “certified skincare junkie”, I couldn’t resist picking some skincare items from the brand. Shea moisture has always been a favorite of mine for my kinky hair so I was willing to see what they had to offer in the skincare department especially after I had read Abee of the kink and I‘s review of some of their products.

Meanwhile, every product at the masterclass was for 30% off and I don’t even know how people managed to hold themselves from buying that day. Not 10% or 20% which is even fair enough, but 30% off! Me, Nada! (Confessions of a Skincare Shopaholic). You needed to have seen me studying and checking through rows and rows again looking for products my eyes likely missed and I would likely love. I bought 7 items, 3 of which are skincare and was gifted their Raw Shea Butter Hydrating Body Lotion and some samples. I think I actually went overboard with the buying. No jokes!

So shall we review?

Okay, so I purchased, The African black soap clarifying facial wash and scrub, the African black soap clarifying facial mask, both from the African black soap line and the Coconut and hibiscus spot correcting serum.

The African black soap clarifying facial wash & scrub | It’s labelled as wash and scrub but I bought it primarily to use as a scrub. Every other day, I use this along with the Clinique Anti-blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam. I bought it to use interchangeably with my Simple kind to Skin Smoothing Facial Scrub because I wanted a scrub that had some form of acne treatment in it. It contains tamarind extract and tea tree oil (My favorite) said to be for blemish prone skin as well as “Salicylic Acid’ which is common in the skincare industry for treating acne. African black soap clarifies oily blemish-prone skin, tamarind extract exfoliates and brightens the skin while tea tree oil gently balances and soothes the skin. This is actually the first time I’ve heard of the ingredient “Tamarind extract” so I was enthusiastic about trying.

My Observation

It’s a white creamy wash with black beads in it. It has a light consistency and doesn’t lather so much. It actually acts more like a scrub than a wash which is exactly what I wanted. If you have acne prone skin, it’s mild enough to serve as your daily wash. It’s very gentle on the skin and it’s definitely that kind of wash / scrub that can be used everyday.  It essentially does the work of a scrub but gently exfoliates the skin which is awesome if you have sensitive skin too. If you are using this as a scrub and you are using a wash that has some form of treatment, you should pay attention to moisturizing and hydrating your skin properly as your skin can get dehydrated fast. In all honesty, my skin doesn’t feel different, neither is it getting worse – which is definitely a good sign- probably because of the amazing product I’m already using. It’s a good wash /scrub if you ask me.

The African black soap Clarifying Mud mask | Just like the facial wash and scrub, this mud mask is also for blemish prone skin and contains tamarind extract and tea tree oil. I use this mask twice a week at night. This mask kind of reminds me of charcoal masks and apart from the fact that I really wanted to try this line of skincare products, that too actually made me buy it.

My Observations

This mask glides on smoothly on the skin and disappears at it dries. After about 5 minutes of applying to my face, my face started to feel hot – lol – and I felt the urge to wash it off. If you have sensitive skin, you may not want to leave it on for long. It’s quite similar to the Queen Helene Mint Julep masque as it brings all my white heads to the surface too. For every time I used it before applying the Coconut and Hibiscus Spot Correcting Serum, I loved my skin afterwards. I can’t even emphasize how much but my skin felt so amazing!

The Coconut and Hibiscus Spot correcting serum | I will be reviewing this in a separate post and this should be up hopefully soon. I feel this product deserves a separate post as I haven’t tried it enough to say if my spots have become less visible with usage. Although I really love it as it soothes my skin and reduces Inflammation. Spoiler alert! I will do a more detailed review soon.

Products I use along side with them are:

Another amazing thing about using SheaMoisture skincare range is that it’s “cleaner” than many skincare brands. Trust me, you don’t want to be packing on too many chemicals on your face for old age sake.

Have you tried SheaMoisture skincare? Was it love or hate situation?

I love how detailed this post it. I haven’t tried out any product from the Shea Moisture brand but I’m willing to whenever the pocket allows. The Mud Mask is definitely something I’ll like to try as the Charcoal Mask I currently use contains a lot of chemicals.
Can’t “be packing on too many chemicals on our face” because Skin Care.

  2. Oh this stuff looks awesome! I’m always looking for beauty products that aren’t tested on animals
