Cold Weather Skin care

Lagos has been chilly lately. We are officially in the rainy season and I find my self reaching for slightly different products in this weather than in the drier, hotter months. I notice I’ve had to top up on hydration and these are some of the products I’ve been using lately.

For cleansers..

Oil cleansing really helps in this season. At night, I start off cleansing with the Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil. I work that into my skin for a while and finish up cleansing with Cosrx Low PH Good Morning Cleanser. If you aren’t so keen on double cleansing, use a gentle hydrating cleanser that of course, will not break you out.

I then go in with the Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner and a cotton pad to remove excess dirt and prep your skin for my serums. My vitamin C serum has been a staple in my stash lately so I use the Klairs freshly juiced vitamin drops serum to brighten and protect my skin in the day. This serum is a gentle, effective and non-oily formula that makes it easy to layer other products on it.

At night, I use The Ordinary Retinol 1% in Squalane to treat my skin. I like this serum because apart from helping treat my skin concerns, it adds hydration to my skin making it look plum and soft in the mornings.

To keep your skin hydrated..

I use the Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner and The ordinary Cold Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil. The aim in this weather is really to keep the water and oil content in your skin balanced. In place of a hydrating serum, I take about two drops of my toner and two drops of the Argan Oil and press that into my skin. I find out that this works really well to keep my skin plum and hydrated all day. I mostly do this at night on days when i don’t use my retinol in squalane serum or when I’m in all day.

Alternatively, you may want to include an essence in your routine. I recently started using the Cosrx Hyaluronic Hydra Power Essence. Essences are incorporated in skin care to hydrate, nourish, aid skin repair and enhance all other products put after using it. I particularly got this one to up my skin’s hydration level. I wouldn’t say I really like it just yet as I picked it not to long ago.

Moisturize too…

Moisturizers help to seal everything underneath your skin and prevent excess water loss. Using moisturizer rich in humectants also help to draw water from the air and make sure your skin is hydrated all day.

You can also try…

Sleeping packs! Also called sleeping masks, they are a great way to intensely hydrate your skin while you sleep. At night, depending on how my skin feels, I use the Cosrx Ultimate Moisturizing Honey Overnight Mask and it does give me the much needed hydration my skin needs.

How did the Cosrx honey overnight mask work out? I want to try their rice mask as I am in the search for soothing moisturizer.

Hey love. Thanks for stopping by. The Cosrx Honey mask is really okay. Okay for the night time, too thick and occlusive as a day time moisturizer. Some people swear by it as a day-time moisturizer but i’m guessing that would only pass in winter. If you’re looking for a soothing moisturizer that would really help to soothe irritated skin, i’d suggest the Klairs Midnight blue calming cream. Works wonders!

wow!!!!! Thumbs up Ife….. For me, am still in search of an hydrating face cream that will moisturize my face and stay matte all day because I have a very oily facial skin. I have heard a lot of good things about clinique’s dramatically different gel and it’s on my wish list. I will really appreciate any recommendations from you.

Thanks Yemi! Try the Cosrx Oil free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion ( with birch sap) or the Cosrx Aloevera Oil free moisturize cream! Both really good moisturizer! On the higher end of the spectrum, try the Black up ultra mattifying rebalancing fluid. The great thing about this moisturizer is that rebalances your skin and with continuous usage, your skin balances out as less oily and normal. Is my holy grail actually

I'd love to hear from you!
